I am a parent of a sixth grade student at JAMS, a business owner, and renter in the Pico neighborhood of Santa Monica.
I am running to continue to serve as President of the Santa Monica–Malibu Unified School District board.
Why I’m a school board Candidate
I’m Alicia Mignano, President of the Santa Monica–Malibu School Board. I was elected in 2022 and I’m honored to be back asking for your support for re-election.
Over the last four years I’ve worked to put students first. During the first 2 months on the board, I visited every school in Santa Monica and Malibu to better understand the diverse needs of our students and teachers. I’ve focused on improving outcomes for multilingual learners, protecting early reading intervention teachers from budget cuts, supporting healthier classrooms through upgraded air filtration across the district, and investing in long overdue deferred maintenance.
I’m a renter in the Pico neighborhood, with my husband and our son, who starts sixth grade this August. As an immigrant and a public school parent, I know how transformative a strong public education can be, and that’s why I serve.
