Alicia Mignano

Alicia Mignano, smiling while wearing a black shirt, sits in front of flowers planted at the Pico branch of the Santa Monica Public Library system.

I am a parent of a second grade student at Edison, business owner, and renter in the Pico neighborhood of Santa Monica.

I am running to be the next board member of the Santa Monica–Malibu Unified School District.

More About Me

Why I’m a school board Candidate

I’m running for School Board to offer a fresh perspective, as both a parent of a student attending an SMMUSD elementary school, and as a former “at risk” and English learner student who attended public schools.

I am proud to be a part of the SMMUSD community, and dedicate my time to ensure that all students receive an excellent public education. I have a proven track record of hard work and dedication directed towards improving SMMUSD’s student outcome and experience.

I am a strong advocate for our students and a committed parent volunteer. I decided to run for School Board to continue my efforts to support all students at the district level, and to help facilitate constructive change.

If elected as a School Board Member, I will continue to advocate for:

  • Increased parent engagement and communication
  • Spending focused on students, especially to address learning loss, mental health and the achievement gap
  • Diversity, equity and inclusion in our schools
  • Smaller class sizes and teacher/staff retention
  • Safe, secure and sustainable schools
